Three Main Methods OF Grilling – Everything You Need to Know

The act of grilling, or cooking food over coals, has become trendy. The innovative methods of baking, broiling, steaming and grilling infuse appetizing flavor and aroma more than any other process of cooking. High temperature gives a crunchy, scorching, and smoky look and taste outwardly but inwardly the kebab’s, meat steak, seafood, and smoked beef are completely soft and juicy.

Cooking either on gas grills or offset charcoal grills, are categorized into three main methods of cooking:

  • Direct method (dry heat cooking)
  • Indirect method (moist heat cooking)
  • Combo cooking (combination cooking)

Cooking grills are virtually divided on the basis of the method of where and how the meat is placed to smoke and grill. A direct method involves direct contact between the food and the fire to be baked, barbecued, smoked, or grilled. On the contrary, the stove with the indirect method has a fireplace. The only heat and smoke pass through the meal. Whereas the combo system comes with a smoker that can cook, bake, broil, smoke, and grill every type of food and meat.

Though there is a huge variety in cooking as an open grill, covered grill or steaming, rotating roast, brochette grill, Campfire-Style or smoking, every type of cooking can be bunched within these main practices. The three cooking types use heat in three different ways to give you on-demand form and flavor.

What are the various methods of cooking?

Eventually, there are three basic methods of cooking. These are dry heat cooking, damp heat cooking, and merger cooking.   1. Sautéing

Sautéing or sauté is a method of cooking that requires a little amount of oil that does not let the matter stick with the pan. You stir the food whether it is meat, edible greens, pasta, hamburgers, poultry, bacon, fish, or onions on high flame. It is cooked until or unless the flavor is extracted and the food gets brown.

  1. Dry Heated Cooking

The sere cooking method introduces the cooking without using fluid to cook the substance. The evaporates produced by steaming, cook the food like baking and roasting. This method of cooking does not let the real essence and taste of food go wasted

  • Baking and Roasting

All over the world, these two methods are considered the same. You can use an oven to heat the food. Roasting means cooking fish, grains, and veggies at 200 to 400 degrees F, whereas baking bakes things like cakes, desserts, and slices of bread. It also contains salmon, veggies, and fish. 200 to 350 degrees temperature is required for baking.

In the two methods, heat currents travel and circulate inside the appliance, and cook the food.

  • Steaming

Steaming is the quirkiest cookery method that takes heat only from the evaporation of the boiling water inside the container. It is the most loveable and favorable method amongst Asian chefs. For this friendly method, you take a steaming container and put the food pot in it having no contact between the food and water. The meat and vegetables come in the real flavor and nutrients while they are steamed.

  • Broiling

Broiling is a unique method of cooking, different from roasting and baking. It requires direct flame to cook food quickly at high temperatures. This cooking technique provides perfect burn or char on veggies and meat. At home, you can use a broiler for cooking or an extra rack for it. Instead, professionals use a specific oven to broil the substance.

  1. Boiling

Boiling is an old and simple method of cooking. You add water to the substance and leave it on the stove at the required temperature until the liquid starts bubbling. There are also some specific pots to boil the milk and other edibles like soup, pasta, corn, meat, eggs, and teas.

  1. Simmering

Simmering is the same as the boiling method of cooking, but there is also a big difference that simmering gives moisture to food. In this method, the water is kept below the point and left on a lower flame. It is ideal for veggies, grains, pulses, and pasta.

  1. Stewing

Stewing is the cooking of mixed vegetables that are chopped in different shapes. The substance is cooked until it gets thickened. It is cooked for the longest to get the required color, form, and flavor. For the best result, add the vegetables and fruits first that take a longer time to be cooked, then add the fast-cooking vegetables in order to fully utilize the nutrients.

What is the difference between direct and indirect grilling?
